Week 6: Encompass Culture

This is a great site, easy to use, and with good reviews. I looked at reading groups and found it interesting. I also found the booklists great. The one I looked at was 'a celebration of Indian writing.'
However, the more I looked at encompass the more I found it to have huge gaps.. I putin different authors I thoughtI would find but no show!
Even though the site has limitations I will certainly show it to my Monday book group and I will find it extremely useful, because of all the categorys, to recommend books for reading when my evening book group is compiling the list of reading for the next year.

Week 5 Slideshow

This week has been more difficult because I could not access the slide show from my computer at work. This meant waiting until I had time to get to the learnet to view it.
Slideshow is a valuable site if you need to prepare a power point with slides. Definitely something we could show to our customers if they are interested and for myself it could be useful for my book group of for best sellers.

Week 4: Tastespotting

Priya told me that I should try this site as she thought I would find it fun!! It is great and so time saving if you are looking for a recipe. It is great to share recipes with friends and I am sure our customers would like to know about this site.
I chose lemon slice as I love this with a vengeance and I have brought to work a few times different recipes of lemon slice and my friends here rate them!!!
Maybe this one will be the winner.

Week 3: FeedMyInbox

I have subscibed to Manukau Top 5 goodies, cuisine recipes and TVNZ Breakfast and found it easy to use. However, I am finding that all the emails coming through are overwhelming as you want to read everything and do not have the time!!!!
Will I recommend this site to our customers? If they ask of course I would tell them about it as it is easy to use, but I do not think our customers come into our libraries for this sort of information. Please don't all yell at me for making this statement... I am probably wrong!!!

Week 2: Picapp

Decided to look at Picapp straight away and found it easy to use, although Priya came to have a look at what I was doing and she gave me some help.
I chose travel and Italy to post an image.
This would be great for our customers and library staff to use if they require free legal images to use for their work.... no copyright problems.

Week 1: Box.net

Well here I am again, round 2 of web 2.0!!!!
I thought when I finished the last round that would be it but oh no Mz Tosca had to go and create more work for us!!!
I visited box and created an account and then when I tried to upload a picture I ran into difficulties. After many loud mutters and curses I rembered the email sent about uploading and finally it worked.
I think that I would maybe use it for myself if I was overseas in an internet cafe and needed to save something and I had no removable disk and could not access email etc.
I could recommend to our customers who do not have an email account that they save their documentation in box.net where they are able to access it later.
Therefore I think this is an easy site to promote when necessary to our customers.

Week 6 Facebook

Well I have created a facebook account and completed the tasks.
I looked at the website for Alexander Turnball library and National Library. I found the homepage very clear and informative. They update their news and events regularly.
For me, I do not think I will continue to use facebook as it is quite time consuming and I would rather read a book! Very old fashioned of me I know!!!!! However, I think it would be a fast and easy way to keep in contact with friends and maybe as I get used to it I may use it.
I did not find it that easy to use at first as it was a complete new site for me.. I was not sure where to place my comments etc. However my lovely colleague Priya has given me a lot of support and help.
Our customers have never asked me for help with Facebook but I now could help them set up an account.
I will promote the Manukau facebook page for them to keep to date with events etc.
